Tempel Salomos

The lodge Tempel Salomos was founded in July 2015 by seven sisters and brothers. On 12 December 2015 we solemnly lit the Light of the lodge and were admitted into the Grand Orient of Austria.

We build symbolically upon the ‘Temple of Solomon’ by devoting particular care to the performance, exploration, and teaching of the ritual. The ritual provides us with orientation for thought and action in everyday life. The temple is a place of intellectual inspiration and encouragement toward self‑reflection, a place of human encounter, friendship, and mutual support, a place of protection and of shared striving for insight.

We believe in the good, the true, and the beautiful in the human being, and we strive to discover and cultivate these qualities within ourselves, for our own perfection and for the benefit of humanity.

Since we are all part of the chain of brotherhood, we are aware that our individual conduct always influences the community, and that the success of the lodge depends on the contribution of each and every member. In all our decisions within the lodge, we therefore bear a double responsibility as sister or brother: responsibility for our own actions and well‑being, and responsibility for the well‑being of the community.

Our bijou (lodge emblem) shows the seal of King Solomon, King of Israel, who built the first temple in Jerusalem. His reign was marked by peace and economic prosperity for his people. He was renowned for his wisdom: ‘Wisdom have I loved and sought from my youth…’ (Wis 7:9), and therefore he asked God for it when he ascended the throne. And: ‘God gave Solomon wisdom and insight in great measure and breadth of heart — like the sand on the seashore.’ (1 Kings 5:9)

The human being, as a microcosm, opens himself to the spiritual forces of the macrocosm, raises his earthly‑limited consciousness toward the higher, and receives from there the spiritual good that enables him to attain insight.

Wisdom was synonymous with the ability to understand the divine order of creation and to integrate oneself into it through right action. When a person acts rightly, life will go well for them. Any action that violates the divine order of creation will, by contrast, have negative consequences.

Women and men from the age of 25 may become members of our lodge if they feel the desire to engage seriously and consistently with symbolism, with themselves, with others, and with society. If this willingness is present, the ritual can foster the development of one’s personality and the growth of practical competence. We meet twice a month for our lodge work.
